Our Leadership
Hon. (Mrs.) Allen, Alice Tangi Okorodo
Executive Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area
Across the winding roads and creeks of Sagbama, from its most remote rural enclaves to its central communities, a powerful current of change is reshaping the narrative of local governance. Where neglect once left broken walls and impassable bush paths, a new era of prosperity, resilience, and responsive leadership now takes root. At the helm of this transformation stands Hon. Mrs. Alice Tangi Allen—a visionary leader whose quiet strength, proven capacity, and unwavering commitment to the people are redefining what grassroots governance can achieve. Born on January 20, 1971, in Akeddei Community, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Hon. Allen’s journey to leadership is forged through decades of service, scholarship, and enterprise. Before assuming office as Executive Chairman of Sagbama Local Government Council, she built a distinguished career in the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and later as a dedicated educator, rising to the rank of Principal. Her political trajectory has been equally methodical and impactful: serving as a PDP Women Mobilizer, Councilor, and Senior Special Assistant to a former governor—each role sharpening her instinct for grassroots needs and deepening her sense of duty. A successful entrepreneur in agriculture and water production, she created jobs and stimulated local development long before entering public office, demonstrating that her vision for prosperity is rooted in practical, lived experience. Since her swearing-in on May 29, 2024, Hon. Allen has led not with rhetoric but with deliberate, visible action. Her first priority was restoring dignity to governance itself: the Sagbama Local Government Secretariat, once a symbol of fatigue and decline, has been swiftly revitalized. Worn-out roofs replaced, offices refurbished, furniture renewed—the administrative environment now reflects the seriousness and pride of accountable leadership. Yet Hon. Allen’s vision extends far beyond buildings. Her deepest impact is felt where needs are greatest. In Akeddei, construction of a new primary healthcare center is underway, delivering a clear message: healthcare is a right for all, not a privilege of proximity. Roads once impassable in the rainy season are being graded in partnership with the Deputy Governor, reconnecting isolated communities and restoring mobility. A woman of deep faith, Hon. Allen insists that governance must be driven by integrity and compassion. Her regular outreach to vulnerable families with food relief exemplifies a leadership style that is both practical and humane—recognizing that transformation must be felt in the stomach as much as it is seen in the skyline. With a career rooted in education, her passion for learning remains fierce. She continues to champion better school environments—not only for teaching but for inspiring young minds toward self-reliant, prosperous futures. Her personal involvement in farming is no mere symbol: she actively cultivates plantations and believes that Sagbama’s youth must turn to the soil as a source of dignity and wealth. To that end, she is mobilizing agricultural experts to reignite a passion for farming across the region. Her visionary leadership resonates through every Rural Development Area (RDA). Schools that once posed threats to life are now safe, dignified learning centers. In some communities, local school principals now live in decent housing—a rarity in many parts of the state. Town halls are being transformed into civic hubs where unity, culture, and development converge. When fire devastated homes in Bulo-Orua, the RDA Chairman under her watch responded by rebuilding two twin-bedroom flats, restoring not just shelter but human dignity. Thousands of desks and classroom blocks have been supplied to schools in Tungba-biri, with staff quarters planned so that educators can live and serve within their communities. Markets in Elemebiri, once faded into ruin, are now active and renovated. Community pavilions have been completed, boreholes installed, and new teachers’ quarters are on the horizon. In one area alone, six thousand solar-powered boreholes—executed under her watch—have addressed critical water scarcity, a staggering testament to her administration’s resolve to tackle basic needs head-on. Hon. Allen also inherited a backlog of unpaid gratuities. With support from the Prosperity Government, her administration is systematically clearing these debts monthly—ensuring that pensioners no longer languish in silence. This gesture reflects her deep-seated respect for those who served before her. Community feedback tells its own story. During a recent radio call-in session, residents applauded her not just for executing projects but for being accessible, listening, and responding with sincerity. Her support for sports development and her inclusive approach to governance are winning hearts across the LGA. While acknowledging that resources are limited, she remains firm: no government can solve every problem at once, but every government must be sincere in trying. She encourages Sagbama’s youth to embrace self-reliance, promising that empowerment will come not only through handouts but through meaningful investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and access to funding. She is candid about remaining challenges—transportation in some areas, infrastructure needs in a few secretariat offices—but her leadership is built on action, not excuses. She and her team remain relentlessly committed to practical solutions. Under Hon. Mrs. Alice Tangi Allen, governance has found its rhythm—measured not merely in cement and steel, but in dignity restored, hope rekindled, and lives genuinely touched. The journey is only beginning, but it is a journey marked by purpose, powered by passion, and anchored unshakably in the people of Sagbama.
